About us and our aspirations

Youth in film

The West Clare Film Club was established in 2016 with the sole ambition of bringing West Clare youths a unique insight into the film making process. Film making has been centred around Galway, Dublin and other cities. We would like bring some of that fun to our rural youth in a community driven project.

We believe creativity is a resource that is not explored effectively in our youth. We would like to develop a creative outlet for young film makers and our dream is to offer young people an opportunity to learn skills and see their work on screen; assisted by professional supervision.

The Club aims to teach youths how to make short documentaries on local events, amenities and facilities that can enhance their community. We will run a 12 week film making course supported by Clare Local Development.

Rural Ireland may have the next great film maker and we want to find that person or help find them, give them access to in accessible state of the art tools and equipment along with the help to deliver a piece of drama or documentary that could launch a career.

Many great local events happen and evaporate in haste. Trends have shown people want to document these moments by taking photos. We would like to play a role in documenting these and bringing these great moments that define us to screen in a professional way for a long lasting memory. We will encourage members to take ownership of the equipment, enjoy learning how it works and especially enjoy using it.

Look forward to meeting up ...

Annie

Chairperson

Boorman began writing film reviews while a teenager. After a stint in the British military, he moved to television in 1955, editing and filming documentaries. He joined the BBC a few years later, rising to the head of their documentary division by 1962. He had great critical success with his series of documentaries Citizen 63, which describe what the British citizen in 1963 was really like, rather than how he described himself. In 1964 Boorman directed The Newcomers, a popular six-part study of a couple from Bristol.

Boorman’s first feature film, Catch Us If You Can (1965; also known as Having a Wild Weekend), followed the British rock group the Dave Clark Five through Bristol, using the cityscape as backdrop. read more https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boorman.
